Data released in late December by the U.S. Census Bureau shows Texas’ population is growing, and it’s not slowing down anytime soon! The Lone Star state’s population grew 1.1% between July 1st, 2020, to July 1st, 2021, for a total of 29,527,941. The 1.1% increase is equal to 310,288 new residents. It means about 850 new residents move to Texas every day and places the state at #7 for percentage growth. If Texas continues to grow at 1.1%, the population will break the 30 million mark in 2022. Austin Is The Best City for Employers

Austin is home to several large companies, ranging from industries like tech with Facebook, IBM, Dell, and Google to big retailers like Whole Foods and Amazon, and there’s more to come! Big companies moving to Austin or making their stay more permanent within the past year are Tesla, Google, Amazon, SpaceX, Apple, Facebook, Canva, and Oracle. Plus, many tech companies moved their headquarters to Austin in the past year. In just 2021 alone, over 150 companies expanded or moved to Austin. In 2020, the number was around 130. 

The Best City for Outdoor Activities 

Austin has moderate temperatures all year round, which is why you’ll always see residents soaking up the sun in one way or another! Popular outdoor activities are hiking, walking, running, cycling, swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Lady Bird Hike and Bike Trail, and the Barton Creek Greenbelt are popular locations for all these activities. Plus, our city is only an hour’s drive from several State Parks. 

Austin Is The Best College Town

Point2 named Austin #1 for the most dynamic college town. The study looked at successful universities, economic activity, human capital, housing, and earning power and equity. Our city ranked high for change in business establishments and patents under economic activity. Austin also ranked high for population growth. Lastly, the city ranked high again for housing units and building permits. 

Last summer, LendingTree published its findings for the most popular cities for millennial homebuyers. Austin ranked #8 out of the 50 largest metropolitan cities ranked by millennial home buying popularity. Last year over 50% of real estate transactions were done by millennials with an average age of 31.41.
